What does DynaDoc software do?
DynaDoc is a portable document technology specially developed to handle the exchange of
electronic documents between ideographic languages, including simplified and traditional
Chinese (CJKS), Japanese, and Korean, and between English and any of these ideographic
languages. Built on Dynalab's patented stroke-based font compression technology and
drawing on the extensive copyrighted originally designed DynaFont library, DynaDoc
significantly reduces the size of text-rich documents for transmission across networks
while retaining text and formatting. In short, with DynaDoc, Chinese-, Japanese-, Korean-
and American-based users can exchange e-mail in its original form across barriers of
language and platform.
What is Reader?
Reader is a graphics program that works together with DynaDoc. With Reader, embedded
illustrations, graphs, etc., appear as formatted by the originator of the document.
DynaDoc and Reader together allow the user to read and print documents exactly as
composed.
How does a user obtain Reader?
Reader is free. You can download it at the DynaDoc Website or Reader can be e-mailed by
one user to another.
What is the DynaDoc file size?
Total file size is 885k in Windows 3.1 or 488k in Windows 95. After compression this file
shrinks to about 300k.
Must the user obtain Reader only in the same language version as the user's DynaDoc?
No. DynaDoc in any version can use Reader in any version.
If I don't have Reader, can I use browsers such as Netscape or Explorer to read a DynaDoc
file?
Yes. DynaDoc supports Netscape and Explorer plug-in programs.
Is it easy to print a DynaDoc
file?
It's very easy. Simply install DynaDoc, go to Print, and select "DynaDoc
generator."
How does a DynaDoc file show the original font while running on a different working platform?
DynaDoc transfers fonts into a document by using a process called "direct
building"; that is, DynaDoc has the ability to go directly to a specific storage
location without passing through what's in front of it. In addition, DynaDoc has solved
the problem of font-embedded portable document technology originating in Western one-byte
technology which has proved inadequate to the task of adopting CJK (Chinese, Japanese, and
Korean) characters. Most importantly, embedding the CJK characters into portable documents
resulted in files of huge data size. DynaFont's stroke-based compression technology
enables DynaDoc to store limited stroke outlines, significantly reducing data size.
Reducing the document's data size is especially important when data is distributed via
electronic means, for example, over the Internet, where communication bandwidth is costly.
Can DynaDoc software do
broadcasting?
All DynaDoc files can use the Auto Broadcast feature in Reader for broadcasting. They can
also switch between auto and manual broadcasting.
What is Unicode?
Unicode is a standard for character fonts. This standard is set by the Unicode
Consortium, and is based on ISO10646. The Unicode Consortium is a non-profit
organization established to research and promote Unicode. With international
communications growing more and more convenient, and the world becoming a "global
community", the utilization of multilingual documents is becoming more commonplace
and more important. The Unicode standard meets this challenge by establishing a
character encoding standard for multilingual computer documents.
What is the DynaLab CJK Font ?
The DynaLab CJK Font to SupportUnicode standard is a defined subset of the
Unicode encoding standard. It includes ideographic characters found in traditional
Chinese, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
How many characters does Unicode include? How about the DynaLab CJK Font?
Up to now, Unicode has included 34,168 characters for languages from around the
world. The CJK subset covers 20,902 ideographic characters found in Chinese Big-5, CNS
11643, plane 14, Japanese JIS X 0208, Korean KSX 5601, KSC5657, mainland China's GB- 2312
character set, plus related symbols.
Which corporations have actively joined in the development of Unicode-related products?
In addition to DynaLab Inc., Unicode Consortium members include major software and
operating system (O/S) developers from around the world: Apple, DEC, HP, IBM, Lotus,
Microsoft, NeXT, Novell, Symantec, Taligent, Unisys, WordPerfect, Adobe and Sybase, and
many others.
What does DynaLab now offer for the CJK Font to Support Unicode standard?
DynaLab has completed one font set based on this standard, the DynaLab CJK Font to
Support Unicode standard. It includes ideographs found in traditional Chinese,
simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. This TrueType font is now being tested on the
Chinese Windows NT operating system. After testing has been completed, TrueType fonts for
other operating systems will be developed and offered to meet the needs of various users.
How can I use
DynaLab's CJK Font to Support Unicode standard?
Unicode standard fonts must be used with Unicode compatible O/S and application software. Currently, we are testing the fonts on Microsoft's Window's NT O/S and related application software. The Unicode environment will soon become more wide spread as more O/S and application software is developed to support this standard.
With so many ideographic characters included in the DynaLab CJK Font to the Support Unicode standard, will it take up a lot of hard disk space?
No, it requiresonly 5 megabytes of hard disk space.
What are the uses of Unicode ?
The uses are numerous. For example, an instruction booklet for a product sold
globally, captions for movies and television programs distributed internationally,
multilingual educational programs, multinational commercial documents, name cards, and
restaurant menus, etc.
What industrial or individual applications are the DynaLab CJK Font to SupportUnicode standard especially suitable?
Multinational corporations, printing and publishing, media broadcasting, document
translation, advertising and design, international sales, etc.
What will be the pricing for the DynaLab CJK Font to Support Unicode standard, and when will it be available?
Testing has just started for this product, and at this early stage, we envision that
it will be marketed to service system manufacturers and software developers. We estimate
its suggested price will be $15,000 per font set. This price would include the DynaLab CJK
Font to Support Unicode standard, 30-hours of telephone tech support, and two
on-site service calls (international travel expenses not included).
When will a
consumer version of this product be made available?
Once O/S and application software testing has been completed, the product will be
released on the market. DynaLab may market this product directly.
In
addition to the CJK Font, is there a complete Unicode Font set?
DynaLab plans to release a complete Unicode Font set during the spring of next
year.
Besides the CJK MingCho TrueType Font, does DynaLab plan to introduce any other Unicode fonts?
